How to Care for Make Up Brushes

Mineral makeup brushes need to be cleaned and cared for periodically so they can work their best to give you quality coverage for your mineral makeup.

Find A Perfect Mineral Makeup Brush

The one thing that can be found in every woman’s make up case is her trusty make up brush. We all have our reasons for choosing the ones we do whether going for the cheapest (typically a synthetic make up brush) or most durable (typically a natural aka mineral make up brush). Most women couldn’t tell you the difference between a synthetic and mineral make up brush, let alone how it should be cared for.

Synthetic Make Up Brushes

  • The synthetic material used in the synthetic make up brushes allows us easy access to a relatively inexpensive application tool. While the materials in these brushes are designed to mimic that of natural mineral make up brush, synthetic bristles are usually more tolerant of water or other liquid applications, such as our concealer brush which is a blend or natural and synthetic bristles.

Mineral Make Up Brushes

  • A Mineral make up brush, such as a kabuki brush, has been developed using authentic hair to apply dry make up in the most effective and precise way. Known for being high quality, a mineral make up brush is used by almost all cosmetologists working to display perfection. Many have also found that their mineral make up brush causes less irritation since they are much softer and easier on the face than man-made make up brushes.

Cleaning A Make Up Brush (Synthetic or Mineral Make Up Brush)

Now that you know what a synthetic and mineral make up brush are it is important to go over cleaning a make up brush. A dirty make up brush can cause an uneven complexion, nasty bacterial infection or even relatively common breakouts. Cleaning your make up brush is very simple and should be done often, some say with every use while others suggest once a week. There are special instances where cleaning them is essential such as; when others use it, when exposed to a bacterial infection, or when dropped on an unsanitary surface.

How To Clean Make Up Brush:

  1. Take the brush and put the bristle end in the water pointing downward.

  2. Apply a small dab of cleanser or shampoo and gently massage to get all grime off.
  3. Rinse the brush thoroughly.
  4. Press to squeeze as much water out as possible
  5. Re-fluff the bristles into their natural shape and lay it flat to dry.

Extra Tips to Caring for Your Make Up Brushes

Here are some things you should know about washing both mineral make up brushes and synthetic make up brushes.

  • Try using mild soaps, specialty brush shampoo or mild shampoo rather than chemical brush spray on solutions. These solutions are often more powerful than necessary causing serious skin irritation.

  • If your make up brush becomes stiff or scratchy try applying a small amount of conditioner to the very tip and then rinse thoroughly. (More effective on a natural make up brush.)
  • Never leave your mineral make up brush soaking wet. Most should not be put under water (except cleaning) at all.
